Grape Discoveries invites you on a one-day private Douro Valley wine tour to meet local winemakers and taste delicious Portuguese 'petiscos' (small plates).
On this private Douro Valley wine tour, led by wine writer James Mayor, you will get an insider perspective on what makes the Douro one of the most exciting wine regions in the world. You will meet two local families involved in making wines in the Douro Valley for generations.
Your five senses will be fully immersed in the rich local culture with its winemaking traditions and flavorful gastronomy.
On this private Douro Valley wine tour you will:
✔️ visit the homes of Teresa and José, two cousins with big hearts, great sense of humor and
vivid stories to share
✔️ learn about the winemaking process in the Douro Valley
✔️ taste excellent Douro wines and Ports from boutique wineries
✔️ savor Portuguese culinary delicacies around an 18th-century kitchen table
First, you will visit a historic manor house lovingly restored by Teresa. A delicious Portuguese ‘petiscos’ lunch (small plates) will be paired with selected wines from Lavradores de Feitoria, a boutique wine brand generating a lot of interest.
On our next stop, we will visit a typical Douro winery. José, the owner and winemaker will show you around his private museum and explain the winemaking process. You will taste more wonderful wines, olive oil, and an exceptional ‘ancestral Port’.
In the late afternoon, you will enjoy a leisurely ‘secret walk’ high above the River Douro, quite simply one of the most beautiful spots in the world.
The return drive to Porto will surprise you with more staggering scenery and, if you are lucky, an incredible sunset over the hills. The perfect ending to your one-day Douro Valley wine tour you’ll wish never to end.
